Instructors

Eduardo Graf studied journalism in San Diego, California, and has edited and photographed for Surfing and Kiteboarding magazines and web pages. Currently he is studying filosophy and working exclusively teaching kitesurf and Stand-Up Paddle Surf.

An experienced surfer (started in 1977, Eduardo has surfed in places like Sunset Beach, Jefferey,s Bay and Uluwatu among others. In 1985 he lived in Durban, South Africa, where he trained rescue thecniques with the local life guards.

In 2002, he moved to Buzios, where together with the instructor Joyce Duarte they introduced kitesurfing to Praia Rasa (Barra do Una), a place that today receives hundreds of kitesurfers and where all the instructors working in different schools have been trained by us or have worked with us at some moment.

"My first contact with kitesurf was back in 2001 when I was invited to do the first web page with daily news about kiteboard in Rio de janeiro. During this period I followed the main international and national competitions held in Rio and I interviewed the world and national champions together with shapers, designers, instructors and everyone involved with the sport somehow. Something that helped me understand how people get hurt while kiting was the translation I did for portuguese of a list od accidents reports.

Now, in 2008, I started practicing Stand-Up Paddle Surf and I am very motivated by this new experience which is opening my understanding of what surfing is.”

 

Joyce Duarte has been kitesurfing for 5 years and she handles strong winds with the cofidence of someone who knows what he is doing. She likes to do jumps and is always out on her 9m Cult kite from Naish.

"I have seen her kiting on waves in stormy days and she has been my partner with Buzios Kitesurf school since the beginning. Whether taking pictures of the students, making reservations or giving lessons, she is always around to help us do the best for our students."
